China Supports PNG’s Plans to Host the Inaugural PNG-China Business Forum & Trade Expo
Port Moresby, July 8, 2026- The people and Government of China are ready to support the Government of Papua New Guinea (PNG) in facilitating and hosting the inaugural PNG-China Business Forum & Trade Expo which will be hosted in Guangzhou of Guangdong Province, China, on October 19 – 21, 2026. This was made known by the Chinese Ambassador to PNG, His Excellency Yang Xiaoguang during his meeting this afternoon with the Minister for International Trade and Investment, Hon. Richard Maru.
The Ambassador described this initiative as “ambitious and forward-looking”.
“While it is quite a noble and ambitious undertaking, it is important that we firm up the details sooner, including the visit of the Prime Minister, Hon. James Marape, to officially open this auspicious forum and trade expo so the Chinese Government is informed and all protocols are put in place and observed. We also have to make sure there is a body in China working with us to facilitate the arrangements of this event,” said Ambassador Xiaoguang.
The Ambassador added that they were very grateful that the PNG Government had taken the initiative to host this.
Minister Maru said the plan was to have one thousand delegates from PNG and a thousand from China to attend and participate in this forum.
“We will finalize details of the venue and other essential information by next week. We have no doubt that both the Chinese and PNG business communities in our two countries will get behind us in providing sponsorship support for this forum and expo which will bring together business communities, investors, and PNG producers including our mining and petroleum companies who want export their goods into China,” said Minister Maru.
